How to hear from God

Have you ever felt lost at some point in life, and desperate to hear God’s voice for direction? Perhaps you wished God could give you a clear sign for an important decision. Do you wonder why some people seem to hear from him easily, but when it comes to you, God is always silent?

Many believers feel stuck in their attempt to hear from God. Not because God is not speaking or willing to speak, but Because they do not recognize the ways God speaks.

Understanding How God speaks to Us

The biggest reason many believers miss God’s voice is that they expect him to speak in a certain way; like a human sounding voice, Spectacular signs, Clear vision, or Dream. Although, God speaks through all these means (Matthew 3:17 ‘and lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’), But we need to understand he’s a sovereign God and he chooses the way he speaks at any given point. It is our responsibility to be sensitive in the spirit to hear him when he speaks. The “Voice” of God should not be confused with just a physical sound. It encompasses all the way God communicates with us. God is a spirit and he communicates with us primarily through our spirit man (Our heart). not our physical ear. The “voice of God” is a holistic term that represents all the spiritual channels God uses to share His will and intent with you

Ways God speaks to Us

HIS WORD (SCRIPTURES):

The Bible is the most reliable channel for hearing God; it is the “more sure word of prophecy”. If you want to hear Him, you need to meditate on it to internalize His voice and know his will about all things from creation, the purpose of man, marriage, finance and every other thing. Nothing is new under the sun, everything you could go through in life is already captured in the bible from Genesis to revelation. The bible captures in-depth the will of God about everything.

As you begin your journey into the word, Raise a prayer unto God as Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:18 – that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. The word of God is a spirit (Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living…) Except God enlightens your heart, You may not fully benefit from it. Once you’re enlightened in the light of his word, you’d begin to hear the voice of God in your spirit man concerning your own specific situations.

One of the ways I highly recommend to hear the voice of God from his word is to search out scriptures about a matter you are praying about e.g. You are believing God to be Debt-free, Search bible chapters and verses about everyone that was in debt, and see how God intervened. As you meditate on them, The voice of God would begin to crystalize and a leading would be forged in your spirit.

If you want to Journey deeper and grow in knowledge of the mind of God. Set a specific time daily, and Set your heart to know his will as you study and meditate from Genesis to Revelation. This is a sure way for God to take you to deeper knowledge of his will. God is more interested in making his will known than meeting your own expectation.

 

OUR HUMAN SPIRIT:

The human spirit has a voice, we call it conscience. Sometimes we call it intuition, an inner voice or guidance. Every man’s spirit both saved and unsaved has a voice

Let’s Meditate on these verses

• Proverbs 20:27 (NIV) – The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one’s inmost being.

The spirit man is inward man that exist in everyone. In a bornagain’s life. He becomes a new creature whence old things are gone, the corruption, iniquity is wiped away. But being a new creature, his food is the word. Just like a baby grows over time, the human spirit is fed on the word.

You cannot obey a spirit that has not fed sufficiently on the word. The word makes him an authoritative guide. If not, it would lead you from the flesh. Remember the mind cannot dominate spirit when it’s full of the word. If you a fleshly, your spirt would be weak and the holyspirit cannot pass solid information to you.

John 4:4 – He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world. This is talking about the holyspirit.

The spirit of man is the candle of the lord. God communicates to your spirit. Your spirit gets his information by the spirit and passes that to your mind.

 

THROUGH DREAMS AND VISION

God speaks to us through dreams and vision while we sleep, when our soul and flesh is inactive, then his spirit begins to reveal things to us.

Job 33:14–18

“For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword.”

Matthew 1:20: But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

Acts 10: 10 -11: He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. ¹¹ He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.

Many times these revelations are revealed in parables and pictures locked in the wisdom of God and it takes the spirit of God to understand them.

Genesis 40:8: “They said to him, ‘We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.’ And Joseph said to them, ‘Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.

The deeper things of God are a hidden wisdom and not for carnally minded persons. God expects us to journey deeper to unlock these wisdom. Anytime you have a revelation hidden in mysteries, It’s a call for prayer, and drawing nearer. Throughout Christ’s ministry on earth, He shared kingdom secrets in parables to the crowd(Spectators) but explained them to the disciples(Close relationship).

Matthew 13:10 – 11 –  The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” ¹¹ He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.

Unlocking the wisdom of God requires closeness and heart felt seeking. Jeremiah 29:13 – “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. “. As you begin to seek God through the word, fasting and praying in the spirit, He reveals himself to you in a way others can not see.
